1919
Paul A. Mariani designed the FIRST mechanized prune dehydrator which became the industry standard.
1949
Mariani introduces the FIRST rehydrated, ready to eat, dried fruit snack in the U.S., in addition to using a clear package because Paul Sr. believed in quality the customers could see.
1959
Mariani is the FIRST to develop the largest fruit planting in the Southern Hemisphere allowing orchard fruits to be grown, packaged and delivered to customers year-round.
1964
A spring frost had settled in Silicon Valley threatening to ruin Mariani’s cherry crop. Paul Jr. came up with an idea. He asked the U.S. Airforce to fly their helicopters just above the trees to blow off the frost. They agreed, and the crop was saved!
1989
Mariani REVOLUTIONIZED the consumer packaged goods industry with the first stand-up bag featuring a resealable zipper and a clear window.
1994
Mariani is FIRST to introduce Pitted Plums Plus, the first dried fruit product with added essential vitamins, bringing functional dried fruit to the market.
2000
Mariani is the FIRST to introduce a line of berries and tropical fruits including blueberries, strawberries, cherries, pineapple and mango.
2008
Mariani is FIRST to offer triple-sealed dried fruits in clear tubs that gave stores and customers alternatives to what was traditionally only bagged products.
2010
Mariani is FIRST to bring TouchLock Easy Seal closure to the United States. This velcro-like closure made resealing bags much easier and rapidly became an industry standard.
2011
Mariani is the FIRST dried fruit company to have vertical integration in the big 3 fruit segments: Raisins, Prunes and Cranberries. That meant that we could control the quality of the dried fruit for our customers by handling the fruit from the orchards all the way to the bag.
2015
Mariani is FIRST to introduce probiotics to the dried fruit industry with Probiotic Prunes, offering an easy and delicious way to get your daily dose of probiotics.
