Dried Cherry Burgers
Ingredients
- FOR THE CHERRY BEEF PATTIES
- 3 tbsp Mariani Sweetened Dried Cherries, finely chopped (25 g)
- ½ lb lean ground beef (225 g)
- 1 tbsp red onion, finely chopped (about 10 g)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (5 ml)
- ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce (2.5 ml)
- ¼ tsp salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1 tsp olive oil (5 ml), for the pan
- FOR THE BALSAMIC ONION JAM
- ½ medium red onion, thinly sliced (about 60 g)
- 1 tsp olive oil (5 ml)
- 1 tsp brown sugar or honey (5 ml)
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (15 ml)
- Pinch of salt
- TO SERVE
- 2 brioche or whole wheat burger buns, toasted
- Lettuce or arugula
- Cheddar cheese, optional
Instructions
- 1. Warm the olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced red onion, a pinch of salt, and the brown sugar or honey. Cook 5–6 minutes, stirring, until soft and caramelized at the edges. Add the balsamic vinegar and cook 2 minutes more until sticky and jammy. Set aside.
- 2. In a medium bowl, gently mix the ground beef, dried cherries, red onion, garlic, Dijon, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper. Form into 2 patties about ½ inch thick. Do not overwork the meat.
- 3. Heat olive oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Cook the patties 4–5 minutes per side, until browned on the outside and cooked to your preferred doneness. Add cheese in the last minute if using so it just melts.
- 4. Lightly toast the buns. Layer with lettuce or arugula, the cherry beef patty, and a spoonful of warm balsamic onion jam. Top and serve right away.
